JOHN JAMES VILLAGE, CANBERRA

John James Village is Canberra’s home-away-from-home for people with life-threatening blood cancers.

Opened in 2016 in the suburb of Garran, John James Village provides a sanctuary for patients undergoing treatment at nearby Canberra Hospital for conditions such as leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma and others.

John James Village is proudly operated by the Leukaemia Foundation.

The Village comprises 6 purpose-designed self-contained units and support facilities in landscaped gardens. Patients, their families and carers can live at John James Village for as long as required without charge.

The Leukaemia Foundation provides additional support and care from on-site offices.

Canberra medical charity the John James Foundation proudly funded construction of John James Village with a project cost of more than $7 million. Land was provided by the ACT Government.

Donations to support furnishing and fitting out of John James Village including gardens and other facilities are welcome.

In Australia 35 people a day are diagnosed with blood cancer.

In the ACT region about 400 people are diagnosed with blood cancer every year.  Blood cancer can affect anyone from infants to the elderly and claims more Australian lives than breast cancer or melanoma.

John James Village provides a comfortable home-away-from home environment while people are treated at nearby Canberra Hospital. Patients often have to leave home and work for months at a time to get treatment, so secure accommodation is vitally important.

John James Village is managed by the Leukaemia Foundation from new office facilities in the Village.
